Rajasthan Royals script a Super Over victory over Knight Riders

CAPE TOWN: It could not have got better than this! A Super Over contest was needed to identify a winner in the thriller between last year's champions Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders at Sahara Park Newlands on Thursday. After a heady contest in Durban where Delhi Daredevils won by nine runs from Chennai Super Kings, it needed a battle like this to keep the adrenalin flowing in the DLF Indian Premier League. The teams tied scores at 150 each in 20 overs and it was the platform on which a rookie paceman Kamran Khan was launched into limelight. The teenager from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh first took three for 18 in his four overs to help Rajasthan Royals bowl out Kolkata Knight Riders for 150 despite a gallant 46 by Sourav Ganguly. He then bowled a 16-run over and dismissed Chris Gayle to set the stage for Yusuf Pathan to steal the thunder. One of the heroes of Rajasthan Royals' title run last season, Yusuf Pathan struck Ajatha Mendis for two sixes and a four off the first four balls off the mystery spinner's Super Over to clinch a fantastic win for Rajasthan Royals to bring the tournament alive. Here is a blow by blow account of the Super Over contestKolkata Knight Riders Super Over
Ball one: Chris Gayle takes a single to kick-off the first Super Over in DLF IPL history
Ball two: Knee-high full toss hits Brendon McCullum on the finger, but no no-ball called even as McCullum looked around for a signal
Ball three: Wide off the off-stump and was just outside Gayle's reach. Declared wide
Ball four: Gayle send it over the mid-on fielder for a four
Ball five:Gayle thumps to the mid-wicket boundary
Ball six: Gayle pulls again to mid-wicket region for a four
Ball seven: Graeme Smith dives forward on the point boundary to take a catch to dismiss Gayle Kolkata 15 for one (Gayle 13, McCullum 1 not out)
Rajasthan Royals Super Over
Ball one: Yusuf Pathan slams Ajantha Mendis over the cover region for a massive six.
Ball two: Pathan gets under the ball but mistimes it to the straight field. Angelo Matthews dives but in vain. Two runs taken
Ball three: Pathan smashes the ball way over the mid-wicket for a massive six.
Ball four: Pathan sweeps to the square-leg boundary for the winning runs.
Rajasthan Royals 18 (Pathan 18 not out, Jadeja 0 not out)

IPL Bizarre

IPL started and all portend are fail as all super heroes couldn't justify their name. But don’t worry it is going to be a very long series. One thing which creates a small fear for IPL-II is low scoring matches. As you know defender Champ and Runner up not only lost their opening matches but scores were also very low unlike the last year. Rajasthan Royals disappoint me, I support RR, just not because they lose the match but they lost the match very poorly. Even I was expecting lot more from Shane warne trump card Kamran Khan :(. They didn't play like a defender champ.
Punjab Kings XI bowled out by Duckworth Luis Yorker:)
Last year two most criticized player Rahul Dravid and Kumble got the highest scorer and Highest Wicket Taker Cap.
Lets c what else surprises we all will get in upcoming matches. :)
Scores Till Now-
BRC : 133 / 8 RR : 58 / 10
Bangalore Royal Challengers beat Rajasthan Royals by 75 runs
KXIP : 104 / 7 DD : 58 / 0
Delhi Daredevils won by 10 wickets
KKR : 101 / 10 DC : 104 / 2
Deccan Chargers won by 8 wickets

Match 1 IPL-II MI vs CSK

So it was opening match between last year runner up, Chennai Super King, and Mumbai Indians. CSK won the toss and decided to field first. MI started with Jayasurya and Sachin. First 15 overs were very bored because they are playing like a 50-50 over match. MI should give all credit to Abhishek Nayar who played a superb knock of 35 in just 14 balls and create a base for MI to be in the match. The remaining task is beautifully executed by Zak and company. And finally Sachin and team start the tournament, unlike the last year, with a superb win.

Lets c what will happen in the outre IPL T-20 Season II :)
Mumbai Indians 165/7 (20/20 ov)
Chennai Super Kings 146/7 (20.0/20 ov)
